McCormicks Cable Park Enjoys Success

updated - 12/4/2008

After many years as a first rate ski school, McCormick's ski school, Seffner, Florida, has taken it up a notch. After much anticipation, and with the assistance of Correct Craft, O'Brien and Cable Wake Parks, we are pleased to announce the opening of a new cable park!

Earlier in the year, father and son combo, Jim and Mike McCormick announced the purchase and future installation of a new Rixen cable system from Cable Wake Parks. This has been part of the long term plans for the past five years. Jim McCormick, now 70, built the current 80-acre facility in 1976. For the past seven years his eldest son, Michael has been running the day to day business of the school, which has become a mecca in the professional water-ski world. The addition of the new cable wake park is just the next step in the evolution of a legend's vision and dream.

The cable rotates clockwise, which is great for all of the regular footed riders. It is also eight feet higher than other currently existing cables in the United States, creating much more lift for massive air tricks. The lake in which the cable is placed was specifically designed around a center island to eliminate rollers and rider chop. Many sliders, kickers and fun-boxes are currently under construction which will provide an unmatched experience in the air and on the water.

In addition to the main cable-way, there is also an "easy start" designed with the beginner riders and skiers in mind. This two-tower cable system offers a softer, shorter pull, with no corners to maneuver. This separate 100 meter cable has a spring-loaded rope that stretches for a very gradual, progressive pull off the dock and out on top of the water. After utilizing the Rixen system, Michael commented, "The Rixen two tower system is the easiest way to teach beginners, even better than using a boat with a boom." This could not mean more for the facility's new additions considering the family's 50 years experience of teaching waterskiing and wakeboarding.

Cable Wake Parks was excited to work with the McCormick family on the new installation. While installing the system, Blake Hess of Cable Wake Parks said, "It is great working with a Family that has so much history in watersports. The combination the Rixen cable system with the teaching experience and atmosphere that already exists at this location is amazing. It will be truly remarkable to see how McCormicks can help the watersports industry grow."

McCormick's is located ten minutes from downtown Tampa and only one hour from Orlando, just east of the I-4 and I-75 interchange. For directions, rates or hours of operation please visit the website at skimccormick.com.
